History of this site
This site was created due to the lack of archiving of bird therian experiences. While general archives like the alterhuman archive exists, many sites that used to host bird experiences, such as blogs, personal websites, and forums, have gone under, these experiences disappearing with them. Bird therianthropes are, while not as rare as reptiles or fish, uncommon in therian spaces, that are largely dominated by mammals.
This site hopes to compile experiences common to bird therianthropes, inspired mainly by the work of Bird of a Feather, a site that used to host essays by bird therians. The blog Animal Quills on dreamwidth is also a source of inspiration. This blog is still technically active, and if you want to leave your mark on it, and are able to write long form essays, I also recommend checking it out.
As of writing this (2026), the therian community has stepped into a direction of less long form essays. While I appreciate that newer therians have a very physical and in touch with reality relationship to their animality, I grieve the in-depth discussions about experiences that helped me put words on how I felt. I am hoping to give people easy access to understanding their own experiences.
This website is mainly written by one author. It may therefore have bias in some subjects. Please do attempts cross-reading other sources if you can.
As a closing note, here is an illustrated fragment of “Being bird : trying to find some common nature”, an essay by Avia on Animal Quills. It is one of my favorite essays.
